Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Competition
On Wednesday afternoon, a group of 17 mixed Year 5 & 6 children represented the school at the annual Marlborough Tag-Rugby Competition. We entered two teams of enthusiastic rugby players who were keen to show off their skills on the pitch.
The teams played a total of 7 matches – winning a number of them across the two teams.
Team A came 5th overall in Section 1 and Team B came 7th overall.
Mrs Tester, Mrs Rolfe and Mrs Roberts were extremely proud of the sportsmanship and teamwork that all of the children displayed!
Year 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 Quad Kids Athletics Compeition
On Wednesday 8th June, 8 children from years 3 and 4 and 8 children from years 5 and 6 attended an athletics competition at Tilsley park. The children were very exciting to be competing in a professional athletics ground. Each participant completed 4 events – a short sprint, a long distance run, a howler throw and a standing long jump. Every performance earned points for the team; below are our final scores
Year 3 & 4: 1181
Year 5 & 6: 1078
It was my pleasure to take the children to this event – as usual they were very well behaved and so supportive of each other. Thank you to Mrs York, Miss Cahill, Debbie and Steph who stayed with us during the event and to any other parents who did drop off and pick up runs – it’s your fantastic support that enables us to attend these events.
Year 5 and 6 Chairman’s Cup Competition
On Wednesday 25th May 2016, seven children from Year 5 & 6 attended a tag rugby tournament at Horspath sports ground. There were 24 schools competing and we are delighted to inform you that we came third in our division. The children displayed exemplary sportsmanship and one of the referees made a special trip over to Miss Goodgame to compliment the childrens behaviour and attitude. Thank you to Mr Baulch, Miss Goodgame and Miss Rimell for your support in preparing the children for the tournament and attending the afternoon.
Year 6 Kwik Cricket Tournament
On Friday 12th June nine year 6 cricketers took part in the partnership Kwik cricket tournament at Stonesfield school. They put in school fantastic performances across 6 matches during the day and won some and narrowly lost some. Overall they achieved a respectable 5th position. Special mentions go to Laurie and Sam for excellent batting and bowling, Joshua for a maiden over and Bevan for some big sixes. It was a great day out!
Year 5 and 6 Tilsley Park Athletics Competition
On Wednesday 3rd June two teams of athletes traveled to Tilsley Park in Abingdon to take part in the partnership athletics competition. Throughout the day, children took part in events ranging from hurdles to long jump as well as fun events like target bounce. We won lots of medals and certificates and our teams came 7th and 5th overall. Well done everyone.
Year 5 and 6 Quad Kids Athletics
On Wednesday 20th May two athletics teams gave up their time to compete in an after school quad kids competition at the Marlborough School. Each athlete had to complete the standing long jump, howler throw, 75m sprint and 600m race. The children all competed really well and were especially impressive over the 600m distance (that’s a very long way!). Overall we achieved a fantastic 7th place for the B team and 1st place for the A team. This means that the A team are through to the West Oxfordshire Finals! Great news!
Year 5 and 6 Swimming Gala
On 8th May we attended our first swimming gala. A boys team and a girls team battled it out in races including butterfly, freestyle and relays. The children all impressed me with their swimming ability and their supportive teamwork. A particular mention should go to Thomas who was incredibly fast in the pool. The boys team came 3rd and the girls team came 5th overall.
Year 3 and 4 Dance Platform
On Friday 20th March Willow class attended the partnership dance platform event at the Marlborough School. Earlier in the term they worked with Claire Wallace to create an original dance based on science, they then practised lots before performing the finished and polished dance in front of the other partnership schools. They showed good dance skills and performed well. Good work everyone!
Year 5 and 6 Football Tournament
On Thursday 19th March two teams of footballers from Tackley attended the first Year 5 and 6 football tournament hosted by Stonesfield in partnership with Stonesfield Strikers FC. We had great success in the pool stage of the tournament with the team captained by Laurie earning 2 wins and a loss giving them 1st place overall and the team captained by Abby gaining 1 win and 2 draws giving them 2nd place in the pool.
This however meant that both Tackley teams met in the semi-final. A hard fought match with good spirit occurred leaving Laurie’s team the winner thanks to a brilliant goal scored by Sam. Laurie’s team progressed to the final where they met the Bladon team who they had beaten earlier. Unfortunately, the close match did not go our way and Bladon scored to win the tournament.
Credit is due to every single player for representing Tackley so well. The teams cheered for each other, played really well and showed respect to the other participants. They once again made me proud to teach at Tackley.
Thanks go to Stonefield School and Stonesfield Strikers for hosting the event, the Marlborough Sport Leaders for officiating and Mrs Roberts for driving the Minibus.
Year 5 and 6 Sports Hall Athletics
On Thursday 29th January a team of 14 athletes from Tackley School attended the Woodstock Partnership Sports Hall Athletics competition at Marlborough School. They competed in a range of events including sprints, obstacle races, throws, jumps and speed bounce. The team did particularly well on the track with wins in obstacle races, paarlauf and the sprint relay. All children showed fantastic team work and sportsmanship. they supported each other and athletes from other schools. We are very proud of their achievements and final position of 5th out of 9 schools. Well done!
Year 1 Dance Event
On Friday 9th January, Year 1 attended the Marlborough to take part in some fantastic Dance activities. They had a great time learning different moves and working with the sports leaders.
