Welcome to the Autumn Term

Jemison Class are all looking forward to our busy Autumn term.  Alongside our curriculum learning there is lots to look forward to, including Harvest Festival and our Hill End Trip!

We will be focusing on Biodiversity and Seasonal Changes in Science and learning about how homes have changed within living memory in History.  We are starting our English learning with a wonderful story by Michael Rosen, called Dread Cat and we will later move onto exploring poetry and non-fiction texts. Full details of the curriculum that will be covered this year can be found on the curriculum information page.

Forest School

During the Autumn term Forest School will take place on a Tuesday afternoon for Year 2. Children need to bring old clothes to change into on this day. We go out in all weather, so please ensure clothing is appropriate for the weather, including welly boots and waterproof clothing if it is wet.

PE

PE is on Monday and Wednesday this term. We ask that children come to school in their PE kit which should include a t-shirt to match the colour of the house they are in, jogging bottoms or shorts and trainers.

Homework:

Reading

The most important thing children in Jemison Class can do at home is read and be read to. The expectation is that children in Key Stage 1 read at least four times a week for 15 minutes. Please make sure that you log in the books they have read in their Reading Diaries. There are certificates of achievement handed out to the children after completing a certain number of reads as well as lovely stickers to stick in their diaries.

The reading books are changed throughout the week in Jemison.  The children are given two books in line with their reading level and one book of their choice from our Class library. We ask that you make sure all books are kept in bookbags (not backpacks) and that they are brought to school each day.  Alongside reading their school reading books children should be listening to reading material they are unable to read independently to expose them to the rich language and ideas we find in such books.

English and Maths

This year we are using the online platforms Spelling Shed and Maths Shed for maths and spelling homework. Children will be set a weekly activity on each Friday that will be to consolidate the learning they have done in school that week. The platforms can be accessed on any device, including phones. Children have their login details in the reading diaries. Feedback will be given to children verbally in school and all those that complete the task will be rewarded with 20 house points and a star for their charts

We are all looking forward to a great first term in Year 2 with lots of fun, learning and stories!

Thank you for your continued support.
